Service or Servitude: The In-house Dilemma

It is definitely an uphill struggle for creative resources to establish a level pegging within an organisation; however, it is not an insurmountable task.
When an in-house design function is trying to elevate itself to a more strategic role within an organisation, it should focus on creating an operational philosophy, as part of a team effort.
Here are some tips:
- articulate the value of design to non-design managers.
- get recognition, credibility, and trust for the role of design in the business.
- establish mutually valuable relationships within the organisation.
- develop and maintain efficient work-with processes.
- develop an individual action plan for improving the design function's position in the organisation.
- discuss operational issues, concerns and functional objectives at team meetings. I know that this is boring to some but it is necessary, because it works!
